The Story Behind the Bottle
The story, the season, and the soil that shaped these wines.
Tscharke
'Reserve' Grenache Blanc, 2024

The Winemaker
Tscharke is one of the Barossa’s most forward-thinking estates, known for reviving rare varietals and pushing the region beyond its Shiraz reputation. With deep roots in Marananga, the family has a long history of innovation, sustainability, and a bold willingness to explore the edges of what Barossa can be.
In the Glass
Pale yellow-green in hue, this Grenache Blanc is bright and lively from the first sip. Notes of Meyer lemon, pear, apple blossom, and white peach weave together into a refreshing, fruit-driven wine. Medium-bodied with a crisp, dry finish, it’s a natural choice for summer drinking.
From the Vineyard
2024 was a standout vintage for Grenache Blanc in Marananga. A dry winter and spring meant the vines worked hard, ripening early with concentrated flavour. Slightly cooler conditions in late summer preserved natural acidity, giving this wine its vibrancy and freshness while still carrying depth from Barossa soils.
Why We Chose It
Grenache Blanc is rarely seen in the Barossa, and this bottle proves why it deserves the spotlight. It’s a refreshing counterpoint to the valley’s big reds, showcasing brightness, precision, and elegance. We love how it broadens the story of Barossa winemaking and invites you to discover a side of the region you may never have tasted before.
GEYER
‘Seaside’ Cabernet Franc, 2020

The Winemaker
Geyer Wines is led by Dave Geyer, an upstart winemaker at the forefront of the Barossa’s new generation. His philosophy is all about minimal intervention and letting the land speak for itself. With a focus on natural winemaking, his bottles are lighter in style, mineral-driven, and earthy - wines that feel alive and rooted in place. As Dave says himself: “This wine is wild, man!”
In the Glass
Medium-bodied and funky. Expect muddled cherry and dried strawberry, lifted by a touch of capsicum and a medley of fresh garden herbs. Dark blue fruits linger from time spent on skins, giving this wine both freshness and depth. A completely different face of the Barossa, and a thrill for adventurous drinkers.
From the Vineyard
Made from Cabernet Franc grown in the Barossa, this is a wine that breaks away from the region’s Shiraz-centric stereotype. Dave’s natural winemaking approach allows the vineyard’s earthiness and minerality to shine through, with minimal interference.
Why We Chose It
We wanted to include something that truly surprises - a wine that pushes against the Barossa’s expectations. The ‘Seaside’ Cabernet Franc is vibrant, wild, and unlike anything else in the region. It’s the kind of bottle that starts conversations and sticks in your memory.
MICHAEL HALL
‘Greenock’ Roussanne, 2023

The Winemaker
Michael Hall is known for his thoughtful, small-batch winemaking, producing wines with precision, elegance, and a deep sense of place. With a focus on letting each varietal and site shine, Hall brings a craftsman’s eye to the Barossa, elevating varietals that often fly under the radar.
In the Glass
A rare and captivating take on Roussanne. Expect a beautiful blend of perfume and floral notes - apple blossom and lily -layered with apricot fruit and a creamy, textured mouthfeel. This is Rhône-inspired richness with a Barossa twist.
From the Vineyard
The Roussanne grape gets its name from the russet bloom that coats the skin as it ripens. It’s a late-ripening varietal, perfectly at home in the Barossa’s warm climate. This wine comes from the Milky Hill block in Greenock, where sandy loam over clay brings depth and structure.
Why We Chose It
Roussanne is a rarity in the Barossa - and that’s exactly why we wanted it in this Edit. It adds texture, perfume, and complexity to the line-up, showing a different face of the region beyond Shiraz. A true hidden gem for adventurous drinkers.
IZWAY
'Mates' Aglianico, 2022

The Winemaker
Izway Wines was founded in 2003 with a focus on crafting powerful, structured wines that embody the Barossa Valley’s character. The Mates series is dedicated to the people who have inspired, influenced, and entertained the Izway team along the way. Known for a hands-on, minimal-intervention approach, Izway lets the vineyards and vintages speak for themselves, producing wines of purity, grip, and energy.
In the Glass
Full-bodied and firmly structured, this Aglianico brims with dark cherry, muddled raspberry, and earthy minerality. Fine tannins give it backbone, while subtle floral notes and natural acidity lift the finish. It’s bold yet balanced - a wine that shows both power and elegance.
From the Vineyard
Sourced from the Koonunga sub-region of the Barossa, the Aglianico vineyard was planted in 2009 on red clay with chunky ironstone and scattered gravel. The 2022 vintage benefited from bountiful spring rain and a cooler growing season with no days above 37°C - conditions that allowed the fruit to ripen steadily with excellent balance. The east-facing aspect of the vineyard protects vines from the harsh afternoon sun, encouraging slow, even ripening.
Why We Chose It
Aglianico is a rare find in Australia and almost never seen in the Barossa. We chose it because it brings something distinctive to this Edit: a Southern Italian grape reimagined in Australian soil. It’s powerful yet refined, and the structure makes it perfect for cellaring or enjoying alongside robust dishes. It represents both tradition and experimentation - the exact spirit of what we want to showcase.
