Inside The Edit
The Story Behind the Bottle
The story, the season, and the soil that shaped these wines.
Izway
‘The Don’ Shiraz 2022

The Winemaker
Izway Wines was founded in 2003 by two friends with a passion for Barossa’s powerful reds. With deep ties to the region’s best vineyards - especially Adrian Hoffmann’s iconic Ebenezer sites - Izway has earned a reputation for bold, structured wines that carry both tradition and innovation. The Don is their flagship, named in honour of the lead of the Izway family, symbolising status, respect, and legacy in Barossa winemaking.
In the Glass
Big jammy notes stewed with lavender, violets, and rose petal. Layers of Bing cherry, dried strawberry, mint, and tarragon. On the palate, complex and long with refined energy, subtle spice, and beautifully balanced tannins. Expect evolving aromatics of cacao, coffee, tar, olive tapenade, and dark chocolate as it ages.
From the Vineyard
Fruit sourced from the Hoffmann Dimchurch vineyard in Ebenezer — planted in 1950 on deep red/brown clay soils with a separating layer of chalky limestone at 283m elevation. The 2021/2022 growing season brought cool conditions, bountiful spring rain, and no extreme heat, producing balanced fruit with ripe bunches. Traditional vinification: natural soak, wild fermentation in stainless steel, basket pressing, and maturation in French oak.
Why We Chose It
The Don is as Barossa as it gets - powerful yet refined, with the depth to age gracefully and the vibrancy to impress right now. It represents the pinnacle of Izway’s craft and one of the purest expressions of Shiraz from Ebenezer. We selected it because it tells the story of Barossa’s past, present, and future all in one glass.
Tscharke
‘Gnadenfrei South’ Grenache 2022

The Winemaker
Tscharke is a visionary Barossa estate renowned for pushing boundaries while honouring tradition. With a deep respect for organics and biodynamics, Tscharke crafts wines that capture the essence of their unique vineyard sites. The Gnadenfrei South block, in particular, reflects their commitment to sustainable farming and precision winemaking.
In the Glass
Explosive and expressive, this Grenache is bursting with bright cherry, red plum, and ripe strawberry. Layers of rhubarb, dried woody herbs, fresh botanicals, and the estate’s signature earthiness build complexity. Fine, silky tannins provide elegance, making this a wine both vibrant now and capable of graceful evolution in the cellar.
From the Vineyard
2022 was hailed as one of the Barossa’s standout vintages in recent memory. Deep winter rains replenished the soils, followed by a mild spring that set the stage for balanced growth. Warm days and cool nights created fruit with high natural acidity and incredible flavour definition. The result: a wine of purity and finesse, reflective of its exceptional year.
Why We Chose It
Grenache can sometimes be overlooked in favour of Shiraz, but this bottling shows why it deserves the spotlight. It’s a wine of elegance and generosity, carrying both power and delicacy. We chose it for its ability to express the Barossa in a way that feels both contemporary and timeless—drinkable now, yet cellar-worthy for years ahead.
Iggy Wines
’Phoenix’ Syrah 2022

The Winemaker
Igor, affectionately known as Iggy, is a Slovenian-born winemaker with more than 20 vintages behind him. His career has taken him from Barossa’s Sons of Eden and Powell & Son to Domaine Jean-Louis Chave in France’s Rhône Valley, Jonata in California, and Villa Maria in New Zealand. With every vineyard he’s worked, Igor has carried forward lessons in craft and patience, shaping a philosophy rooted in respect for tradition, curiosity, and cultural diversity. Today, his work in Barossa and Eden Valley reflects both heritage and innovation.
In the Glass
The Phoenix Syrah pours a deep purple, signalling its richness. On the nose: blackcurrant, Morello sour cherries, rose petal, and hints of black olive tapenade, graphite, and lavender. Despite its “rising from the ashes” name, this wine avoids smoky or ashy notes, instead leaning into vibrant fruit and a velvety, concentrated palate. The tannins are generous yet refined, giving a well-balanced structure with remarkable allure.
From the Vineyard
Grapes are sourced from Eden Valley, a cooler subregion of Barossa that allows Syrah to show perfume, elegance, and tension. Extended skin contact has contributed to the wine’s harmonious depth, while careful vineyard management ensured intensity without sacrificing vibrancy. The resulting Syrah embodies Eden Valley’s reputation for producing wines of finesse and power.
Why We Chose It
“Phoenix” captures Iggy’s hallmark style: wines that are deeply expressive yet balanced, generous but never overblown. With its layered aromatics, velvety texture, and long savoury finish, this Syrah is a showcase of modern Barossa winemaking. It’s the kind of wine that stops you mid-conversation, demanding a moment to appreciate - exactly the kind of experience we curate for this Edit.
Alkina
‘Old Quarter’ GSM 2023

The Winemaker
Alkina is all about wines that are pure expressions of place. Farmed organically and biodynamically, their approach goes deeper than just grape-growing — they’re restoring ecosystems, planting native species, and building a vineyard that thrives in harmony with the land. They honour the Ngadjuri people as the traditional custodians and believe great wine begins with healthy soils and biodiversity.
In the Glass
Vibrant and fresh, this GSM blend is full of character. Juicy red fruits frame the palate, with earthy notes of rhubarb, raspberry, and beetroot. Fine tannins and a lightly rocky texture add definition, leading to an opulent yet balanced finish. A wine that shows both vitality and depth.
From the Vineyard
Sourced from the Barossa’s Old Quarter block, the vineyard is certified organic and biodynamic. The soils are red clay scattered with ironstone and gravel, adding natural minerality and tension to the fruit. The cool 2023 season gave the grapes freshness and lifted aromatics, resulting in a wine of clarity and energy.
Why We Chose It
This GSM stood out for its sheer sense of place - a wine that speaks of the land as much as the fruit. It’s alive with texture, purity, and complexity, and it reflects Alkina’s mission to craft wines that are terroir-driven and timeless. A true expression of Barossa heritage through a modern, sustainable lens.
