Inside the Edit
The Story Behind the Bottle
The story, the season, and the soil that shaped these wines.
ALKINA
'Wild Earth’ 2024 (Semillon, Riesling & Doradillo)

The Winemaker
Alkina is a certified organic and biodynamic estate in the Barossa, focused on small-batch wines that express their land with clarity and authenticity. Their Wild Field blend is an exploration of tradition and experimentation, bringing together heritage varietals in a way that highlights texture, freshness, and vibrancy.
In the Glass
This is a white blend with layers of personality. Semillon brings a waxy, textured mouthfeel, Riesling adds mineral freshness and tropical lift, while Doradillo contributes citrus brightness with lemon zest and pineapple. Aromatics of lime flesh, starfruit, and stone fruit are wrapped up in a silky-slate finish that’s both complex and thirst-quenching.
From the Vineyard
The 2024 vintage called back to the characters of the 2021 edition: fresh, delicate aromatics balanced by intensity and drive. Estate-grown and made, the fruit comes from Alkina’s certified organic vineyards, where meticulous attention to soil and vine health shapes the wine’s energy. Production is limited to just 66 dozen bottles, making this release truly rare.
Why We Chose It
This is one of the most intriguing blends we’ve seen out of the Barossa - it feels at once historic and completely new. The Semillon/Riesling/Doradillo trio captures Alkina’s commitment to innovation, while the lively acidity and textural depth make it as versatile at the dinner table as it is compelling in the glass. It’s a wine that sparks conversation and showcases the Barossa’s unexpected side.
Iggy Wines
‘Deda’ 2023 (Marsanne, Roussanne)

The Winemaker
Igor, affectionately known as Iggy, is a Slovenian-born winemaker with over 20 years of vintages under his belt. His journey began in his grandfather’s vineyard, “Deda,” which laid the foundation for a lifelong devotion to wine. After studies and apprenticeships in Australia, he honed his craft internationally in France’s Rhône Valley, California, and New Zealand before returning to the Barossa. Today, Iggy is celebrated for his expressive, small-batch wines that embrace curiosity, culture, and a deep respect for the vineyard.
In the Glass
This Marsanne/Roussanne blend pours a deep yellow hue, signalling richness and maturity. The nose opens with chamomile, honeysuckle, apricot, ripe peach, and a whisper of stewed rhubarb, all laced with a subtle nuttiness. On the palate, it’s full-bodied yet balanced - smooth, broad, and coherent, with fair acidity carrying through to a lasting saline and savoury finish.
From the Vineyard
Sourced from carefully tended Barossa blocks, this wine reflects the valley’s ability to coax depth and texture from Rhône varietals. With sandy soils and a climate that balances ripeness with freshness, the vineyard delivers fruit that is both generous and structured, making this blend a standout expression of the region.
Why We Chose It
“Deda” is a wine that feels both nostalgic and adventurous - rooted in Iggy’s heritage yet modern in its execution. We chose it because it shows how Rhône whites can thrive in the Barossa, delivering layers of perfume, texture, and savoury length. It’s a wine that invites you to slow down, savour, and discover something new in every sip.
