History
Wine in the Barossa began in the late 19th century with fortified styles, but the region quickly grew into a powerhouse of table wines. Names like Penfolds’ Grange and Henschke’s Hill of Grace put the Barossa on the world stage, securing its reputation as home to some of the most iconic wines ever made.
Geography and Climate
With its Mediterranean climate, the Barossa enjoys plenty of sunshine during the day -perfect for ripening fruit - and cool evenings that keep the wines balanced and fresh. Add in a patchwork of soils across the valley, and you get an endless mix of flavours and styles that reward constant discovery.
Notable Wines & Varietals
About 85% of the Barossa’s vineyards are planted to red varieties, with Shiraz reigning as the region’s superstar. It’s bold, powerful, and unmistakably Barossa. But the valley also shines in white wines -Riesling and Semillon stand out, alongside Chardonnay - offering balance to the richness of its reds.
